Summary

In 1980, three 19-year-old strangers discover they're identical triplets—separated at birth as part of a secret "nature versus nurture" study.

The documentary follows their joyous reunion and rise to fame—talk shows, a restaurant called Triplets, uncanny similarities. Then they learn the truth. Psychiatrist Peter Neubauer deliberately placed them with families at different economic levels and observed them throughout childhood without their knowledge or consent. The study results were never published and remain sealed at Yale until 2065.

A Sundance award-winning examination of research ethics that raises questions about the human cost of scientific ambition and the boundaries of acceptable experimentation.
