Honeyland

In a remote abandoned village in North Macedonia, Hatidže Muratova tends wild bee colonies using ancient traditions and one simple rule: "I take half, and I leave half."

Everything changes when a large nomadic family settles nearby and begins keeping bees - taking everything, leaving nothing. Filmed over three years with 400 hours of footage, the film captures the cascade of consequences that follow. Through intimate footage shot entirely in available light, the film follows Hatidže's relationship with her elderly mother, her complicated feelings toward her neighbors, and her quiet determination to maintain a way of life the modern world has forgotten.
