Alive Inside: A Story of Music and Memory

Millions of Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease or dementia with many spending their final years in memory care facilities. Too often, they are surrounded by wonderful but overstretched staff — and largely forgotten by the world outside.

Dan Cohen, founder of nonprofit Music & Memory, set out to change that. Filmed over three years, the documentary follows his mission to bring personalized music to nursing home residents. Through remarkable scenes and conversations the film reveals how music accesses memory in ways medication cannot - while capturing the quiet reality of memory care: isolation.
