Summary

On February 24, 2022, an Associated Press team arrived in Mariupol an hour before Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Within two weeks, they were the last international journalists remaining in the besieged port city.

For 20 days, they documented what the world couldn't see after Mariupol was cut off. Only 40 minutes of film made it out through failing connections. When they finally escaped, they carried 30 hours of video documenting atrocities Russian forces wanted hidden. The only international record of Mariupol's first weeks under siege.

An Oscar-winning film that ensures, as Chernov said, "the people of Mariupol and those who have given their lives will never be forgotten—because cinema forms memories and memories form history."
